Dr. Arnold visits Copy Editing class

Dr. George Arnold, a former Marshall University professor who wrote the book we used in JMC 101, visited our Copy Editing class today and spoke to us of some important things we need to remember when working with grammar.
He is addicted to correcting grammar of signs, menus, etc. His biggest success story with getting something corrected is when he asked workers at Bennigan's to correct the sign outside their restaurant. It said they were open from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., which is only an hour. It should have said 12 a.m. or midnight. Dr. Arnold asked the employees every time he visited to change the sign. Finally, one of his students was able to have them correct it.
He gave us several examples of misspelled words and incorrect grammar on signs and other publications.
I thought his lecture was interesting and he is easy to listen to in class. I wish he was still a professor here so that I could take his classes. It was nice listening to him and learning about him and his grammar expertise.
